How these numbers are made
Each listing is reduced to its price per fluid ounce across the whole pack, so a 2 oz dropper and a 32 oz jug become directly comparable. Listings whose size could not be read with high confidence are excluded rather than estimated, and a group is published only when at least 5 listings survive that filter. This is a cross-section, not a trend. The site retains no price history, so the index describes the moment it was refreshed and nothing before it.

- How is the castor oil price index calculated?
- Every current Amazon listing whose bottle size parsed with high confidence is reduced to a price per fluid ounce across the whole pack, then those figures are grouped by category and by bottle size. The reported figure is the median of each group, alongside the lowest and highest in that group. Listings whose size could not be read confidently are excluded rather than estimated.
- Does this page show price history or trends?
- No. This site retains no price history — every figure comes from a single refresh no more than 24 hours old, and the page shows nothing at all once that refresh expires. Statements about prices rising or falling would require data this site deliberately does not keep.
- Why are some categories or bottle sizes missing from the tables?
- A group is published only when at least 5 listings in it parsed cleanly. A median drawn from fewer than that would move sharply on a single listing changing price, so nothing is shown instead.
- Does a higher price per ounce mean better castor oil?
- No. Unit price measures cost and nothing else. It does not measure purity, sourcing, or effectiveness, and no castor oil has demonstrated a hair-growth benefit at any price.
