It's a plausible-sounding chain, but two gaps break it:
- No trial has isolated castor oil. No study has tested castor oil on its own against a placebo to see whether it changes hair growth, density, or shedding on the human scalp. A 2022 systematic review found no strong evidence for growth, and only weaker evidence for improved luster [2]. The one 2025 trial that included castor oil combined it with rosemary essential oil and had no castor-oil-only arm, so it cannot attribute anything to the castor oil [3].
